Transform Chilly Nights With New Heating

How can you tell that it’s time for a new heating system for your home? Well, one of the telltale signs has to do with your comfort. Are you still chilly on the coldest nights, even though you’ve gotten your heating system maintenance done and the heat is running? It might be time for heating replacement in Richland, WA so you can keep cozy no matter what the weather is doing outside.

Signs of a Heating System in Need of Replacement

Insufficient or uneven heat is just one of the signs that it’s time for your heating system to retire. If you’ve got a furnace, you might notice that there’s not enough warm air coming from the vents, or that the air is just lukewarm. If you have a boiler, you might find it takes a very long time to warm up, or that your registers never get very hot, or some of them stay entirely cold. But there are other signs to watch for.

Inefficiency is another thing that will gradually occur, even to the best of heating systems, even if you’ve been diligent about getting maintenance done regularly. Eventually, no amount of maintenance will be able to counteract the effect of years of wear and tear. Rising energy bills can indicate that it’s time for a new heating system.

What about repair needs? Well, that depends. An inexpensive repair that might get you through another winter or two could be a reasonable choice. Even a costly repair for a relatively new heating system might be worthwhile, because you could still have many cozy winters with that system once that one issue is resolved. But a costly repair on an already aging system? That’s probably not a good investment.

How Long Different Heating Systems Last

A gas furnace’s lifetime is probably only around fifteen years, so when it’s creeping up toward age twelve or thirteen, it is getting quite elderly. An electric furnace can last a bit longer, because it doesn’t experience as much corrosion, since it doesn’t create any condensation. But it’s not likely to keep running for more than twenty years, so if it would require a costly repair at age seventeen or so, consider a new system instead.

Boilers have the longest lifespan of the three, sometimes lasting up to three decades! Not only do they avoid that condensation issue, they also have fewer moving parts than furnaces have, so there are fewer opportunities for things to go wrong. Still, they won’t last forever.

Heating System Replacement Options

Determining what your best options are for heating system replacement is something you should do with expert guidance. The size of system that’s best for your home’s square footage and layout can be carefully calculated by an HVAC technician. They can also determine what condition your HVAC system is in overall, and whether duct or register repair or replacement are needed.

Plan for many winters of cozy nights with a new, efficient, reliable heating system.
